Old Island’s Jameson Scholarship Awarded
Aileen Garrido, 2006 Key West High graduate, is the recipient of the Foundation’s Nancy Ordway Jameson Scholarship for 2006.

This week Paul Rothaus, Immediate Past President and Board Member of Old Island Restoration Foundation and John C. Giuliano, the Foundation’s Executive Director, presented a check to Aileen Garrido, 2006 Key West High graduate and the recipient of the Foundation’s Nancy Ordway Jameson Scholarship in the garden of the Oldest House Museum. Each year the scholarship is announced at the High School Awards Night in May and the 1st Semester payment is made after college enrollment verification has been provided.

Old Island established the scholarship to honor the extremely dedicated former director of the Oldest House Museum. Mrs. Jameson spent more than 22 years as a volunteer for Old Island and 13 years as volunteer Director of the museum. After her passing last year, the scholarship was increased from $500.00 to $2,500.00 and it is awarded to a graduating Key West high school senior for continuing education in the areas of architecture and building, history, maritime concerns or museum work. The awards are based on general scholarship and extracurricular activities.

Although many excellent applications were received this year, Ms. Garrido’s academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, and her acceptance to Florida International University’s Architectural Studies program and a seat in the Design Studio for Fall 2006 garnered her this year’s Jameson Scholarship.

Old Island raises funds for the scholarship from the Annual Key West House & Garden Tours; its membership program; and donations from individuals and corporations. Restricted donations for the Nancy Ordway Jameson Scholarship Fund are accepted throughout the year and may be sent to Old Island Restoration Foundation, PO Box 689, Key West, FL 33041.
